Together with support from the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, NFB has been focused on developing and implementing technology-driven processes that turn waste from rapeseed oil production into valuable food protein. The focus is placed on utilising the rapeseed cake, a by-product resulting from rapeseed oil extractions, to limit waste and enhance the production of plant-based proteins.
A key problem being addressed by NFB is that of food waste, as well as food scarcity in the long-run. With a growing global population, sustainable foods are becoming a vital necessity to ensure food security. NFB’s technology is able to harvest the valuable protein from rapeseed cake, a byproduct of rapeseed oil production, and turn it into protein-rich food products that support a healthy and sustainable diet.

“We are extremely happy and proud that we received the H2020 grant to continue our research and development. The success rate in this programme was less than 5% and we were the only Polish company that received this prestigious grant in the agri-food sector! We made great progress on developing our technology, protecting our IP and on pre-commercialization activities.”
Since October 2019, NapiFeryn BioTech (NFB) has made great strides in taking their ALSEOS (Aqueous Low-Shear Extraction of Oil Seeds) project from a concept to reality
with funding from Horizon 2020, NFB has been able to conduct extensive research and development into the testing of new food formulations centred around Raptein™ based food formulations.
NFB’s technology has made it possible to recover the entire rapeseed protein, as two complementary protein products, namely, protein isolate Raptein™90 and protein-fibre concentrate Raptein™30. Both products show great potential as functional and sustainable food ingredients!
